BIGI Group is a corporate group primarily working in the fashion industry. Their mission statement is "Enriching our customers' lives and society through the creation of original fashion and lifestyles" [1] and their vision is to "be a company that is trusted and loved by our customers, our business partners, employees and local communities."[2]

They are best known for the fashion brands Pink House, Atsuki Onishi and the Japanese arm of Converse.

History

BIGI Group was originally founded as Bigi Co., Ltd. on July 23, 1970 by Yuji Okusu ( 大楠祐二).[3][4] Designers Takeo Kikuchi(菊池 武夫) and Yoshie Inaba(稲葉 賀恵) were the founding designers and are credited with sparking the DC Boom.[5][6] They were Headquartered in Shirokane, Minato-ku and established their first office in Azabujuban, Minato-ku [3]

In September 1970, they opened their first boutique in Harajuku under the name BIGI. In June 1973 their knitwear branch broke off to form Melrose Co., Ltd., which was the parent company of Pink House. In April 1982, Pink House became independent from Melrose Co., Ltd., and Pink House Co., Ltd. was established. Gedix Co., Ltd. was established in December 1999. Later, in November 2004 Pink House Co., Ltd. and Gedix Co., Ltd. merged.[3][7] And then, in March 2011 Gedix Co., Ltd. and Melrose Co., Ltd merged. In April 2018 Remeal's Agency Co., Ltd. became a subsidiary of Melrose Co., Ltd, and in March 2019 One B One Co., Ltd. merged with Melrose Co., Ltd. [3]

In October 1975 Men's Bigi Co., Ltd. was established as an independent men's fashion company.

In February 1978 Quatre Saison Co., Ltd., the parent company of Atsuki Onishi joined Bigi Group. In March 1978 the "Dgrace" division, broke off and established Degrace Co., Ltd. Rupert, formally a sub-line of Atsuki Onishi was under this division. In March of 1990, Quatre Saison Co., Ltd. and Degrace Co., Ltd. would merged to establish BBKK Co., Ltd. However, this doesn't seem to have worked out, because in September 1994 the "Dgrace" division became independent from BBK Co., Ltd., and P/X Co., Ltd. was established. In February 2021 P/X Co., Ltd. merged with Papas Co., Ltd.

In August 1978, a second-hand / consignment division was established as BMD Co., Ltd. In March 1985 Two independent companies from BMD Co., Ltd:, B First Co., Ltd., and D Fifth Co., Ltd. were established.

In April 1983, P3 Co., Ltd. was established as a food and drinks arm.

In February 1985, Yogan Rail Co., Ltd. joins Bigi Group

In March 1985, BM Factory Co., Ltd., a garment factory, was established. PHF Co., Ltd. was established in March 1999 and in January 2001 BM Factory Co., Ltd. and PHF Co., Ltd. merged.

In August 1985, they established a logistics company, B Trading Co., Ltd.

In November 1985, they established a production company, Office B Co., Ltd. established

July 1988 Kushka Co., Ltd. joins Bigi Group

June 1990 Logistics center in Gotemba, BBC business start

November 1995 Established BMD Co., Ltd.

In August 1997 they established a joint venture, Zara Japan Co., Ltd., with Inditex Co., Ltd. They would then sell Zara Japan in November of 2005 due to the acquisition of the Spanish headquarters by a wholly owned subsidiary.

June 1999 Changed company name to BBKK Co., Ltd. and Papas Co., Ltd.

September 2001 The brand "CUSHKA" division was integrated into Bigi Co., Ltd. Kushka Co., Ltd. was established as BS Company Co., Ltd.

April 2004 Established B Management Co., Ltd.

October 2008 Established One B One Co., Ltd.

April 2009 Established D Six Co., Ltd.

November 2010 Company name changed to PHF Co., Ltd. and BB Transport Co., Ltd.

May 2011 Company name changed to D-Six Co., Ltd. and P-X Communications Co., Ltd.

March 2012 BMD Co., Ltd., BFirst Co., Ltd., D-Fifth Co., Ltd.,

Merged with BMD Co., Ltd.

November 2012 Established Bigi Holdings Co., Ltd.

September 2013 Merged with BMD Co., Ltd. and Bigi Co., Ltd.

January 2018 Yogan Rail Co., Ltd. becomes independent from Bigi Group

February 2018 Transfer of shares from Bigi Holdings Ltd. to MSD Investments Ltd. and Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

June 2018 Paragraph Co., Ltd. participates in Bigi Group
