Life and Career

Gashicon initially wanted to be a manga artist when she was little, but in highschool she switched her focus to graphic design.[1]

After graduating from design school, Gashicon went to work for h.NAOTO where she was eventually in charge of magazine advertisements, graphic design, textile design, and illustration production for the main h.NAOTO line as well as the gouk line.[2][3] She had been a fan of the brand prior to working there and when she initially applied to work for h.NAOTO she submitted her graphic design work from school on and started out working there as a graphic designer.[1]

In 2004, she launched the HANGRY&ANGRY character line, and her work for the line included character design, comics, clothing & miscelanous goods design, TV appearence and development of the shop. [2] She cites the gothic & lolita and punk fashions she created for h.NAOTO as the primary inspiration for the HANGRY&ANGRY characters.[1] She also has stated in interviews that she primarily illiustrates, and the actual garment patterning is handled by other people.[1]

She also collaborated with former Morning Musume members Hitomi Yoshizawa (Hangry) and Rika Ishikawa (Angry) to create HANGRY&ANGRY FUTURE in 2008. [2][4] In conjunction with the HANGRY&ANGRY brand, she has shown in fashion shows in LA and NYC.[2]

In 2011 she realized her dream of being a manga artist and published her collected HANGRY&ANGRY comic works in a book: HELL BOOK, which was released in Japanese and in English.[5]

Currently she is working as a freelance graphic designer.[2]
