Lim Asafuji (朝藤りむ) was born in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. She is best known as the designer of pays des fées which she runs under Lim clothes co, ltd.
Life and Career
From 2002-2005, Lim Asafuji worked as press and as a designer for several companies.[1] In June of 2005, she started pays des fées.[2] In January 2009 she had a solo gallery at Parabolica Bis, followed by one at Gallery Studio Shellahal in March of 2010.[2] In August 2010 she opened her shop in Nakano Broadway, Tokyo.[2] In February of 2012, she had a solo exhibition titled “Insects” at Galerie Tacheles, Berlin, Germany.[2]
In 2014, Asafuji officially launched pays des fées as a fashion brand.[3] Lim Asafuji/pays des fées showed their 2021 A/W collection in Tokyo Fashion week and continued to show there for their 2022 S/S, 2022 A/W, 2023 S/S, 2023 A/W and 2024 S/S collections[3]
In 2023 Lim Asafuji collaborated with actress Miyuki Torii (鳥居みゆき) to launch the new brand ToriM (トリム)[4]
Pays des fées
Established in 2014. The brand's main concept is "strange and cute".[3]
ToriM
ToriM, pronounced "Trim" is an anagram of the two designers, Miyuki Torii (鳥居みゆき) and Lim Asafuji's names.[4] The two met through a mutual friend's hair and makeup artist and hit it off.[4] Their first collection theme is "trash".[4] One of the prints features household garbage and was inspired by Miyuki Torii sending Lim Asafuji photos of her garbage everyday for a week. While pays des fées tends to include fantastical elements, Lim Asafuji has said that this brand is specifically not a collaboration between Miyuki Torii and pays des fées, but instead a collaboration between her as an everyday person who runs a store Nakano Broadway and Miyuki Torii. She wanted ToriM to express the culture of Tokyo and the style of the nerds, scum and bad taste elements of the city.[4]
