Sax

From Lolibrary Wiki

Sax (サックス), sometimes written as Saxe or Saxon Blue is the context of lolita fashion is a light blue color, similar to what is commonly called baby blue in English.

History

Saxon Blue and Saxon green dyes were invented by the Barth family around the 1740s in Saxony, a state in Germany. Traditionally, Saxon blue is a rich jewel tone, and that, along with the rich green of Saxon green was difficult to achieve at the time. After much research in 1750, a French cracked the secret of the regional dye and improved upon it to make it more color fast. In French it was referred to as sans pareille de Saxe. [1]

In 2000, Metamorphose describes items as blue or light blue[2], but later began to use the term Sax. Baby, the Stars Shine Bright used the term sax in 2001[3]. Outside of lolita, Saxe seems to be a relatively commonly used term for light blue in fashion in Japanese, despite it not matching the historical color.[4]
