Common/Relevant Features

Please note that patterns, fabric types, and motifs can and should be tagged for shoes, but the "Solid" tag is reserved for main pieces (JSKs, OPs, skirts, etc).

Finish Tags
  • Matte: The finish you see on your classic pair of Angelic Pretty Tea Party Shoes. It’s a little shiny in the light, but generally has a matte or textured finish. You can’t see your reflection in them
  • Glossy/Patent: Brands will often call this gloss or some variation on it, or mirror or patent. These are almost reflective. They feel like you could write on them with a dry erase marker and then rub it off.
  • Suede: It’s not velvet, but it’s got a fuzzy texture. This is really uncommon. This tag may also be used for other suede items like skirts.
Feature/Style Tags
  • Platform: Any shoe with a thick sole, this includes standard platforms, platform “toe” areas with a heel, and rocking horse shoe style bases. The height does not have to be as high as the examples here, use your discretion.
  • Wedge: Basically a shoe that would be a “heel” if there was a cut out in the middle, but it doesn’t have a cut out in the middle.
  • Shoe Laces / Lace Up: If there are shoe laces or if there is a cord or ribbon going up the leg, slap this on.
  • Style: Oxford: Specifically the style of shoes shown to the left, however, you may also add it to similar-ish  “mens” dress shoe styled shoes
  • Style: Sandal: Open toe, open heel or open sides. If you could see the bottom of the sock, the toes of the sock or the heel of the sock, it can live here.
  • Style: Boot: If it covers any part of the calf with a solid piece of shoe (not lace up ties), it’s a boot.
  • Style: Ankle Boot: A boot that stops short of the calf
Sole Tags

(If no sole material is specified, you can skip tagging it.)

  • Wood
  • Foam
  • Rubber
  • Cork
Material Tags
  • Synthetic Leather: If the shoe says it is made of pleather, PU, vegan leather, leatherette, faux leather, vinyl or another non-leather substitute.
  • Leather: If the shoe says it’s made of genuine leather or cow hide. Note that it will usually be very explicit about it being genuine leather or cow hide or a similar term if it’s a Japanese shoe. Japanese shoes are mostly pleather and will sometimes translate to leather with google translate even when they are pleather.
  • Canvas: For tennis shoes / sneakers made of canvas fabric.
  • Velveteen: If the shoe is made of velvet. This tag isn’t specific to shoes.
Other Common Tags/Features
  • Detachable Strap: ex: an ankle strap that is removable.
  • Detachable Trim: a pearl chain that is removable, for example.
  • Detachable Bow: Aka shoe bow clip(s).
  • Side Zip: A zipper on the inside side of the shoe.
  • Back zip: A zipper at the heel of the shoe.
  • Scalloped: Scallop pattern in the leather.
  • Open Toe: Shows yer toes.
  • Open Heel: Has either a cutout, strap or full opening at the heel-end rather than full shoe support.
