History

Victorian Maiden opened as Victorian maiden Inc, launching their online shop at the same time on October 16th, 1999.[4][3][5] However, the company dissolved 3 years later in the summer of 2003. [3] In August 2003, they reopened under Individual Co., Ltd. (株式会社インディヴィジュアル).[6]

In the Gothic Lolita & Punk Interview Book released in early 2007, one of the designers revealed that they hadn't taken a full day off from work for 2 years.[3]

In December 2017, Victorian Maiden announced that 2018 would be the final year for Victorian Maiden. They announced that their press room would close on April 8, 2018, that all orders would be reservation only starting in February and that they would announce their final plans in a later press release.[7]

Closing Press Release

In January of 2018, Victorian Maiden announced that in honor of their 20th anniversary, they would host a crowd funded campaign on campfire to re-release their iconic coffins.[8][9] The campaign started on February 2, 2018 and their goal was to raise 1,500,000 yen. They had 129 backers and ended up raising 4,784,500 yen, more than 3x the original goal.

On November 30th, 2018, Victorian Maiden announced that instead of closing permanently in 2018 as they had previously planed, they would instead close just temporarily and come back in the Spring of 2019 after restructuring the brand.[10]
