Concept
The brand concept was[2]
"Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong speaks about 'the ones I love', and 'the flowers that bloom in the fields'. It's a song filled with tenderness, sung as if it were talking to you.
Isao Kaneko created "Wonderful World" with the goal of creating clothes that he really likes, as if layering on the feelings of the song.
Floral pattern of roses and violets. Loving frills and lace.
The teddy bear that everyone loved. Handcrafted patchwork. for girls.
A lot of beautiful "colors". Coloring by Isao Kaneko. Layers of cotton.
Clothes that make everyone who wears them feel kind, fun, happy, and beautiful.
Created with Isao Kaneko's never-changing "favorite things"
Derived from "wonderful world (japanese)", it's "wonderful world (english)".

Tips for Identifying Pieces
As always, we recommend searching Lolibrary first both by item number and by any relevant tags/features. If neither of these bring up the item, the following are some tips for researching the mystery item, though you are always welcome to ask for assistance in the Lolibrary Discord, or the EGL Research Center or What is that dress? Facebook groups as well.
Wonderful World published robust photo catalogs which typically have sheets with item names and prices. There also also sketch flyers that were mailed out every month, and there are also item specification sheets. You can identify the year or possible 2 years of a piece by the item number.
Item Numbers
Item numbers for wonderful world items are printed on the wash tags of most, if not all, items. Item numbers start with a W followed by a number. This number is the last digit of the year.
First 2 Digits | Years(s) | Unconfirmed Year(s) |
---|---|---|
W1 | 2001 | |
W2 | 2002 | |
W3 | 2003 | |
W4 | 1994, 2004 | |
W5 | 1995, 2005 | |
W6 | 1996 | 2006 |
W7 | 1997 | 2007 |
W8 | 1998 | |
W9 | 1999 | |
W0 | 2000 |
The next number is a single digit that indicates some sort of release group or time frame. This number is most commonly 1, 2, 3 or 4. This may be a season marker. Items released together in the same series in the same year will have the same 2nd digit.
Next are two letters. These stand for the type of item.
Item Type Code | Item Types |
---|---|
KA | knits, sweaters, skirts (probably knit or cutsew material skirts) |
FP | Pants, shorts, overalls |
FA | OPs, Overdresses, Talbards, Salopette skirts, |
FC | Coats |
FM | Jackets, Hoodies |
FS | Skirts, Skirts with suspenders, Salopette Skirts, JSKs, Talbards, Aprons |
GA | Goods: Accessories. Socks, Gloves, Teddy bears, broches, fans, scarves, overskirts, collars, jabots, jewelry, pouches, cooking aprons |
GB | Goods: Bags |
GS | Goods: Shoes |
UA | Cutsews, Skirts, OPs, Sweaters. Usually more casual or cutsew material |
The last 2 digits of the item number are sequential. They start at 01, and keep going until the end of the items for that release time block. Items from the same series that have the same item type code are usually issued sequential numbers. For example W81KA11 and W81KA12 are both sweaters from the same print series.
For example, if we take W81FP04, w have a W for Wonderful World, followed by an 8 for 1998. The 1 is the release's group. FP means this is in the general 'Pants" category. and then 04 means this is the 4th pair of pants release in group 1 in 1998.
