A petticoat is a fluffy underskirt worn under a lolita dress or skirt to give the skirt shape and volume. The most common shapes for petticoats are A-line (shaped like the bottom of the letter A) and bell or cupcake (shaped like a bell). Petticoats are typically worn so that they are not seen peeking out from under the hem of the skirt.
This category may also contain some underskirts which are worn so that the bottom sticks out of the hem of a dress or skirt, primarily to add a ruffle or lace at the hem of the skirt or dress.
