VISIBLE was a gothic lolita brand characterized by its primarily solid colored and plaid patterned items decorated with lots of frills and lace.

Concept

The brand "makes clothes that allow you to express your lifestyle."[1]

History

While in fashion school at Osaka Mode Gakuen, designer Rachel often went to a local night club frequented by students from local fashion and beauty schools. She made friends there and held a few fashion shows at the club showcasing everyone's talents. Visible originally began selling items in 1998 in the brand Marble's Osaka shop. At first, Visible made items in a variety of colors, but in 2000, Rachel received an offer from the owner of Atelier Pierrot to carry Visible items in their store, on one condition: make all-black clothes. The owner of Atelier Pierrot thought that all-black clothes would sell well, and it resulted in record sales.
In 2002, Visible moved out of Marble's storefront.[2]
In 2005, they opened a web shop.[3]

Notable Figures

Rachel (レイチェル) - founder, designer, pattern maker. Also known as Reiko Matsuyama (松山禮子). She first became interested in fashion in elementary school after falling in love with the clothes worn by 1980s idol singers on TV. Around the same time, she often heard radio commercials for Osaka Mode Gakuen (a fashion college) and decided she wanted to go to school there when she was old enough.[4]

Locations/Sales Model

Visible items were sold through Atelier Pierrot, FLASCO, and Kera shops, as well as through their web shop from 2005-2014.
