EGL is an English-language Livejournal community for discussion of Elegant Gothic and Lolita fashion. Historically, the group featured weekly help threads and monthly themes, including annual "wardrobe post" sharing in the month of January. As of December 2021, the community has approximately 64,745 entries.

"Our mission is help others share, grow, and learn in the Lolita fashion. The community discussions focus on Japanese Lolita fashion and its manifestations the world over. We hope you will enjoy browsing our community!" [1]

History

Dec 29, 2001 - Community launched

On March 25, 2007, after complaints of sales posts clogging up the main community pages, EGL's sister community, EGL Comm Sales, launches for buying and selling secondhand lolita fashion items [2]

"The moderators would like to promote the growth of the community and establish it as a place where people can share, grow and learn in the Gothic & Lolita style. We feel that it will be easier for everyone if we split the community into two sister communities. Both communities will be moderated by the same team, and they will act as one large community. All current sales standards will apply in the new sales community."[3]

March 31, 2010 - EGL Feedback community created, allowing a central location for feedback and vetting of buyers and sellers within the community. [4] Linking to your EGL Feedback page would eventually become mandatory for all sales posts within the community.

July 17, 2012 - Moderator wonderfinch makes a post officially banning all sale and discussion of replicas in the community at the request of "one of the major lolita brands"[5]. This extends to its sister community, EGL Comm Sales as well.
