EGL Comm Sales, also known as the comm sales, and sometimes stylized with dashes or underscores, is an English-language sales group on Livejournal.

History

EGL Comm Sales was created on March 25th, 2007.[1] The name was originally stylized with underscores, and only moved to being styled with dashes when Livejournal changed their URL format.[2]

From January through March of 2007, the daily post count on EGL ranged from 25-60 with a large number of those being sales posts.[3] Posts to EGL Comm Sales picked up around Mid June 2007.[4]

When the group first launched, users used the LoliGoth Database as a feedback source.[5] After that site closed, a new affiliated group was created called EGL Feedback. When other sales platforms like Facebook Sales groups and Lace Market launched, they often asked people to include a link to their EGL Feedback.

On July 16th, 2012, the moderation team issued a warning about Oo Jia who was known for making counterfit items and was already banned from EGL for not following the rules. This was in response to her trading in grey goods and labeling them as authentic.[6] Less than a month later, on August 8th, 2012, EGL formally banned the sales of counterfeit items following pressure from outspoken members of the community and brands.[7]

While site is technically still open, it's not actively in use and people rarely post. As of May 2023, there have been 77,556 posts to the community and it is 148th in Livejournal's community Rankings.[1]

Users tagged their posts with tags to indicate if they were selling, trading or buying items. Tags for communities would be shown in an alphabetical list in the tag picker.[8] To group tags about posts types together, the mods of the group prefixed the tags with exclamation marks !. Many users would put the tag in their post title as well as tagging their posts. Some of these tags are still used in lolita sales on other platforms today, though in some instances, the exclamation point has shifted to the end.
