First of May was launched by designer Shion in 2000. The brand concept is:

I love "cute". No one dislikes "cute". The moment when you think "cute things" are "lovely", it's the same for a mean person as it is for a kind person because it ’s the same “gentle feeling”. That's why I want to make "cute things". I want to be surrounded by things that I can honestly think are "cute". The name "First of May" was picked to invoke the season when such feelings sprout. Rakuen was a US Based indie brand run by LJ users Ykhkd and bokuwasado. The brand Livejournal was set up on 24 July 2006. They sometimes attended conventions like Otakon. Their webshop stopped updating in 2016. In August of 2016, they attended Otakon where they had replicas of Innocent World and Putumayo mixed in with their other stock.
