Putumayo (プトマヨ) was a Japanese lolita brand known for their punk-inspired releases and collaborations with popular media.
Concept
Putumayo describes their brand as follows:
PUTUMAYO is a pioneer and epitome of the Harajuku Street Fashion scene. Debuting in 1990 the brand concept of “Cuteness mixed with Poison” has been expanding Harajuku Fashion worldwide for over 25 years! This spirit of fun is the inspiration behind all designs. With a decisive sector of PUTUMAYO sales being international! They use universal designs, icons and motifs to fuse the essence of Harajuku Street Fashion with globally nostalgic emotions.
Sub-Labels
Aguglieria (アグリエリア)
Putumayo's "older sister" line with items aimed at a slightly older target audience than Putumayo, with a brand concept of "being able to enjoy the fashion you love even after you've become an adult".[1][2] A standalone shop was opened in Harajuku in November 2005[2][3] and a standalone website was also opened.[4] In April 2006 the brand name was changed to Putumayo lay Aguglieria. By March 2007, the Aguglieria web shop was closed and Aguglieria items were being sold alongside Putumayo items on Putumayo's web shop.
History
In collaboration with Laforet Harajuku Co., LTD.[5], Hyper Hyper Co., LTD. (株式会社ハイパーハイパー) was established April, 1987 as a subsidiary of Gim Co., LTD. (株式会社ジム).[6][7] In 1990, they opened their first Putumayo shop as a select shop in Laforet Harajuku.[8][6] In 1996, they launched their in-house line of fashion that combined sweetness and poison based on customer requests.[8] The Putumayo online shop followed shortly after, opening in August of 2000.[6]
