Shirley Temple is primarily a children's brand that is best known for their custom border prints. Their teen and women's lines were influential to early sweet lolita fashion.

Sub-Labels

For Baby

Launched in February 1991 as "Shirley Temple for Baby".[2] Referred to sometimes as just "Baby". Currently produces sizes 80-90cm.[3] In 2001, they produced sizes 70-90cm.[4]

Toddler

Currently produces sizes 100-140.[5]

Sister

Juniors collection. Currently produces sizes 150-160.[6]

Pink Label

In January of 2000, Shirley Temple split their main Shirley Temple line into 3 sub lines. Pink, Red and Blue.[2]

Emily Temple

Launched in February of 1983 as a teen's (juniors) brand.[2] Historically produced sizes 150-160. Appears in the 2001 winter catalog, but does not appear past this point.[7] Tags are pale silver/white and say "Emily Temple". Later garments have an item number on the washing tag starting with 29, 20 or 21. We tentatively believe that these are 1999, 2000 and 2001 respectively. [8]

Emily Temple Cute

Launched in February of 1999 as a ladies brand.[2] The brand was managed by Shirley Temple Co., Ltd. (株式会社シャーリーテンプル)[9] until 2012 at which point they became an independent entity managed by Emily Temple Co., Ltd. (株式会社エミリーテンプル).[10][11] On Julty 16th, 2013, the brand launched their own online shop.[11] In 2015, the operating company name changed to Maple Design Lab Co., Ltd. (株式会社メープルデザインラボ)[12] and then became J-Jolly Co., Ltd. (株式会社ジェイジョリー) in 2016.[13] Frequently shortened to エミキュ ( Emikyu).

In celebration of their 4th year working with stockist Harajuku Hearts they debuted their first plus size release, the Dear Strawberry JSK in 2023.[14] While their typical back shirred JSKs max out a few cm over 100cm, this plus sized JSK had a bust measurement from 100-140 cm. The plus size was 2,000 yen more than the standard size.[14]

Current sales model as of 2023 involves a reservation period where they take pre-orders with delivery about 4 months later. A different URL is used for the pre-order and the ready stock, but the same item number is used. However, they also use the same item number for re-releases lately, making it harder to identify when an item is a re-release versus ready stock for a pre-order.

For Ladies

Launched in July of 2017 as a ladies line.[15]

For My Dog

Launched in June of 2020, Shirley Temple For My Dog is a pet's collection offering clothing and accessories sized for small dogs.[16]

Launched in February 1994 as an overseas brand.[2]

Shirley Temple Bis was launched in August 1998 as a casual brand.[2]

Lulu

Emily Temple Lulu was launched in 2008 as a French themed casual brand[17] their brand motto was:

"We propose sophisticated real clothes for girls who enjoy fashion based on the concept of everyday life and scenes surrounding the girl Lulu in Paris. It features a design concept that allows you to enjoy various coordination that combines French taste/colors, beautiful silhouettes and playfulness. "[18]

In February of 1999 they launched Emily Temple Cute as a ladies line. The next year, in January of 2000, they split the remaining Shirley Temple line into 3 sub-lines: Pink Line, Red Line and Blue Line.[2]

At the businesses peak, they had more than 50 stores and they sold 2,951 million yen in the fiscal year of 2003.[19]

In March of 2004, they celebrated their 30th anniversary with the release of a special edition spoon magazine: 100% Shirley.[15]

The brand changed their name from Shirley Temple Co., Ltd. to Twiny End Co., Ltd (株式会社ツイニーエンド).[19]

In 2012 Emily Temple Cute split off from Shirley Temple as it's own brand under the company name Emily Temple Co., Ltd. (株式会社エミリーテンプル).[11]

In fiscal year 2012, sales were only 1,479 million yen. [19]Shirley Temple closed 15 stores including the Isetan Shinjuku shop and JR Kyoto Isetan shop in June of 2013. Citing no prospect for improving business conditions in the future, on July 11th 2013, the company suspended business and prepared to file for bankruptcy. According to Teikoku Databank, the total debt was about 782 million yen.[19]

Around 2013, Shirley Temple started operating under the business name MK Co., Ltd. (有限会社エムケー).[20] MK Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of IAAZAJ Textiles.[21] MK Co., Ltd. states that they were established June 8th 2000.[22]

In 2016, they collaborated with Lorioli 365 (ロリオリ365) for Icing Cookies. They also collaborated with the Momoko doll line in 2017 to release PINK ROSIE dress and WHITE LILY dress.[15] The also collaborated with Isetan Shinjuku for the LA CHOCOLATERIE ISETAN event which featured a Shirley Temple pop up shop in partnership with the popular chocolate brand Philly chocolate, which sold chocolate, clothing and accessories.[15][23]

In July 2017 they collaborated with 31 Ice Cream for a limited popup held at Isetan Shinjuku, as well as publishing their first e-mook: "Shirley Temple 2018 Spring Collection (e-MOOK Takarajimasha Brand Mook)".[15]

Also in July of 2017 they collaborated with Aki the creator of the stuffed toy and fancy goods brand Phraula*（フラウラ）under the supervision of Yukiko Shimazoe of Baby Ribbon to produce a special teddy bear as a novelty item.[15] Later that year in October, they announced that they would start selling items from Baby Ribbon on the Shirley Temple online shop.[24]

In April of 2018 they did a second collaboration with the Momoko doll brand and released the "marine stripe dress" Momoko collaboration doll.[15]

In August of 2018 they collaborated with American comic strip PEANUTS and released a limited collection of jackets, dresses and berets which were sold exclusively at Hankyu.[15]

As of January 2021, the parent company MK Co., Ltd., cited that they had 86 employees. 5 of them were men, and 81 were women.[22] They cited the annual average sales over the past three years at ¥625,000,000 per year and capitol of ¥3,000,000.[22]

Yasuo Kobayashi (小林康男) - Former CEO and Rei Yanagawa's husband.[25]

Ayumi - Designer. Retired from working at ETC in February of 2020 after 16 years. Worked on catalogs, collections, shop interiors, talent costumes, photography, patterns, and many other designs. Currently sells under the label A Bit Selfish.[26]

Yukiko Shimazoe - Long time press department director at ST. Left in 2005 to start an independent brand called Baby Ribbon making hat boxes, rosettes, etc.[24]
