WunderWelt (occasionally stylized Wunderwelt) is an online Japanese secondhand lolita consignment shop. In 2016, they launched a sister site, WunderWelt Fleur, which operates as a direct brand retailer, notable as the current official retailer for Moi-même-Moitie releases.

History

WunderWelt launched as an online-only consignment shop by TANAQRO Co. Ltd. in 2014. While competitor Closet Child had been operating within Japan since the 1980s, WunderWelt would focus on targeting a more international audience, and would not branch out into brick-and-mortar stores, maintaining a web-based focus.

"Enchanted by Japanese Kawaii Culture and Gothic & Lolita Fashion, our shop manager opened Wunderwelt in October 2014.

As it is our wish to introduce Japanese culture to a worldwide audience, we are actively providing service to customers all over the world. Our SNS platforms are not only in Japanese, but also in English and Chinese as well.

Imagining the happy faces of our customers when they open their packages motivates us to always give our best."[1]

In September 2015, WunderWelt briefly hosted a pop-up shop in Shibuya featuring a variety of stock items and a "cash bargain corner" bin where customers could obtain clearance items from as low as 100¥ if they paid in cash rather than online/by card.[2]

On July 7, 2016 the official blog announced the upcoming launch on the 11th of WunderWelt Fleur, a sister site or subsection that would act as a direct retailer for new releases from a variety of lolita brands. At the time of launch, Fleur would host 6 brands; 4 Japanese and 2 Chinese. (Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, Alice and the Pirates, Innocent World, Enchantlic Enchantilly, Écailles de Lune and SurfaceSpell.) As of December 2022 this has increased tenfold, and WunderWelt Fleur now sells items from over 60 brands around the world.[3]

Since 2016[4], the site has began to offer a limited selection of in-house items as well under their WunderWelt Original line, mainly basic petticoats, bloomers and more recently, cloth masks[5].

In 2017, TANAQRO Co. Ltd., the owner-operators of WunderWelt, acquired gothic lolita brand Moi-même-Moitie, and has since become their official shopfront/distributor. The announcement was made via both Moitie[6] and WunderWelt's[7] social channels, and noted that "[b]eing able to reach the whole world by making use of TANAQRO’s global structure will be helpful with facing Moi-même-Moitié‘s most important future challenge: To expand Japan’s prized Gothic Lolita culture on a worldwide scale[8].

In September 2021, the site underwent an overhaul for technical improvements and relaunched with a new host, design, URL structure and rewards system after a short period of downtime.[9]
