Betty's Blue was a teen's brand known for their trendy clothing. They were particularly popular with teens and it was very trendy to re-use their cute strawberry shopping bags to carry lunches or gym clothing to school.[1]
Concept
Betty's Blue had 4 main areas of focus which they named: Punkish, Work, School, and Cute&Sexy. [2] However, the also described their brand concept as "Cute & Lovely".[3]
Sub-Labels
In addition to the main teen girls line "Betty's Blue", They also had a menswear line "Betty's Blue Boy" and a miscellaneous goods line "Betty's Blue Goods".[3] There was also "kuma no EIMY chan", which focused on the brand's mascot, Eimy.[4]
History
Betty's Blue was founded in 1985 by Shinji ABE.[3] The parent company is CAN CO.LTD. [2] The brand was featured in magazines like Kera and Cutie through the 1990s, but the last collection put out by the brand was the A/W '05-'06 collection.
After that they focused on their popular character EMIY, launching "kuma no EIMY chan" and rebranding as BETTY'S BLUE & K.L.C. which is normally shortened to just "KLC".[4] In 2009 the brand formally closed.[1]
In the spring of 2021, Can Co LTD the parent company of Betty's Blue launched a mini-collection of Betty's Blue goods. This included a re-usable bag based on the iconic strawberry shopping bag, and a few tee-shirts. The company explained in the press release that they were looking for things that could brighten people's days during the pandemic and decided that they wanted to bring back the nostalgic brand for people to enjoy while stuck at home.[1]
In summer 2021, they teamed up with Jouetie to do a collaborative release with the concept "Mix Girl" which was sold via jouetie's webshop.
