Atelier Pierrot is a Japanese select shop selling indie brands as well as their own house brand which creates gothic / classic clothing. They are known for their use of corsets / corset look pieces. In the early Gothic Lolita industry, it is said that select shop Maria Theresa spread Lolita fashion in Osaka, and Atelier Pierrot spread Gothic fashion and Gothic Lolita in Tokyo.[1]

Concept

Atelier Boz describe themselves as follows: [2]

原宿ラフォーレに本店を構えるアパレルブランドです。

自社ブランドの他、各種ゴシック・ロリータ服、小物等を幅広くお取り扱いさせて頂くセレクトショップとなっております [An apparel brand with its head office in Laforet, Harajuku.

In addition to our own brand, we are a select shop that handles a wide range of Gothic Lolita clothing, accessories, etc.]

Production

As of 2014, AtePie made their house brand items in Japan.[3] As of 2014, Atelier Pierrot has hosted two sample sales where they sold off the house brand samples.[3]

History

AtePie opened their Harajuku shop in October of 1977, and will celebrate their 44th anniversary in 2021 with an expansion and remodel. The Osaka shop location which opened in 2007 celebrates their 14th year in 2021.[4]

The Utsunomiya store was a joint store with Angelic Pretty called Carina e Arlequin[5], and the Osaka store was a joint store with ATELIER BOZ.[6]

In a 2014 interview at Hellocon, Yuko Ashizawa stated that the clothing brand was formed 15 years ago by Keiko Oohashi, when Yuko Ashizawa was still a student.[3]

Notable Figures

As of 2014, the brand had three designers total, and about 10 total employees.[3]

Keiko Oohashi / 大橋敬子 - Founder & first designer.[7]

Yuko Ashizawa - Acting president and Lead designer.[8] She started designing for the brand in 2006, and she became the acting president in June 2013. [3] She said in a 2014 interview that her motivation was that there was nothing on the market exactly like what she wanted, so she decided she would make it herself. She got her start as a designer at Atelier Pierrot.[3]
