Concept
Carina e Arlequin recruited indie brands to work with them, and any indie brand that was interested was invited to contact them, however, the preferred brands with a gothic aesthetic. [1][2] The main focus was aristocrat and women's fashions, with a wider size range than conventional brands for menswear, and a number of unisex designs.[3] They also carried a lot of accessories in addition to clothes. Including one-of-a-kind handmade silver accessories.
They described their Carina e Arlequin in house brand as:
"This is our original brand. Clothes with a neutral Gothic design that are easy to coordinate. Mainly long items or long-coordinated items, but mini-types or coordinated items are also available depending on the design."[4]
They also carried an additional house brand, The first Principality clothing store (第伍公國洋品店) which they described as:
The main brand behind the shop that is said to have received the name from a certain noble person. The designer of this brand Our store manager Tokuon (殊音). We will continue to create new dark clothing every day. The size is available in No. 7.
History
Carina e Arlequin opened September 5th 2003[3] as a joint venture between select shop Pretty (Angelic Pretty) and Atelier Pierrot.[1] [5]
On Sunday, July 18, 2004 they participated in the ~Witch's Flower Garden~ vol 4 event.[6]
When it first launched in 2006, the CEA-Utsunomiya yaplog posted a mix of Angelic Pretty and CEA handled brands with Carina watermarks.[7] However, by October of 2006, the blog had shifted from referring to the shop as Carina e Arlequin Utsunomiya to Angelic Pretty Utsunomiya.[8] Posts from the Melody Doll release in September of 2006 still referenced Carina e Arlequin, but that was the last post to reference the older shop name.[9] In April of 2007, Angelic Pretty relocated the blog to a new blog that didn't reference CEA at all.[10]
