History

In April 2016, Hiroko Tokumine showed a bridal collection at the JFW-IFF (JFW International Fashion Fair) at Tokyo Big Sight.[7] The dresses shown were available for rental or could be purchased as made to order dresses. They also clarified on instagram that they could be rented for photoshoots and other events in addition to wedding use.[8]

Their first fashion show was in June 2016 as part of the bridal industry fair.[9] They were also featured in the magazine Wedding BOOK. [10]

In July of 2016, they teased on instagram that they would be launching a lolita line and that they were looking for names. [11] The next week they announced the name as marcHenTic and stated the website would be live and taking orders starting at 18:00 on July 22nd 2016.[12] Their first dress was limited to 50 copies, sizes S, M & L with other sizes possibly being available on request.

The brand logo was created by Yuko Iwanaga, who focused on "gorgeousness" when creating the desing. The heart, flowers and bird are hand drawn and asymetric.[13] Yuko Iwanaga also designed the initial website. [13]

In august 2016, they started an amblo blog.[14]

The brand was featured in the GLB volume 61,[15] POPUNITED volume 10,[16] and Girlism volume 4.[17]

November 12th, 2016 they hosted the FairyLand Mariage event which included vendors, a lolita fashion show, a makeup demo, and a bridal fashion show.[18][19] The event repeated in 2017.[20]

The brand was also featured in the April 2017 issue of Kera.[21] They also hosted their first brand tea party in April of 2016.[22]

They provided one of the costumes for Hollow Mellow's music video "Enchanted".[23]

In August 2018, they held a musical fashion show event called “Sakura Hime and the Book of Magic” Hiroko Tokumine Grand Collection Show 2018, where the models sang songs from popular fairytales.[24] In late 2018 they posted that they were having trouble keeping up with the demand for bridal dresses on Instagram.[25] In 2019 they hosted a workshop tea party to make a hat and a bridal photoshoot tea party.[26][27] In February 2021, they held a series of workshops where you could go and make a OP and headbow, materials provided.[28] They also held a virtual workshop in March to celebrate the designer's anniversary.[29]

In 2021, they started selling marcHenTic items again after a period of no new activity.[30] In the insta post about the new items, they specifically mentioned that mass production in China had been cancelled and items would be handmade in the atelier in Tokyo, however, it's unclear what, if anything, was ever mass produced.[30] In April of 2021 they were featured in volume 4 of Harajuku Pop Magazine.[31] In January of 2022 they renamed marcHenTic to marcHenTica.[5] In April of 2022, they celebrated the one year aniversary of relaunching marcHenTic/marcHenTica.[32]

Tips for Identifying Pieces

As always, we recommend searching Lolibrary first both by item number and by any relevant tags/features. If neither of these bring up the item, the following are some tips for researching the mystery item, though you are always welcome to ask for assistance in the Lolibrary Discord, or the EGL Research Center or What is that dress? Facebook groups as well.
